7.4.2013 Bulletin
Consider:
"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." --Winston Churchill Dear Folks,
This coming
Sunday, April 14th, we will be back at Babieca for our weekly get-together. When we meet at
Babieca, we have to meet at 15:00 (3 pm) instead of the (more) usual 14:00 (2 pm), and we have to let them know how many of us are coming, so
RSVP, which means please let me know bySaturday noon whether you will be coming.
Babieca, as you may recall, is in Ciudad Vieja at the Mercado del Puerto, and we gather in the room upstairs.
Other items that may be of interest include:
1. A suggestion:
Many of us are “in progress” with Migraciones. They have the new computer that can be used to query the status of your application. However, you have to physically go there – the system is not available over the Internet. And this computer is the only way to see if there’s a problem with your application or what its status currently is, or has become.
Rather than everyone individually trekking to Ciudad Vieja every so often, perhaps resources could be pooled and whenever someone goes they could take a list of application #s to check? Or perhaps if someone goes regularly for other reasons they could take a few extra minutes and check a list of applications?
2. The
computer is still available: A nice
Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 15" (SR) which costs US $550. It has Lion OS X 10.7.5 and a nice suite of software. Case show wear on the bottom only, the rest is near mint and comes with a new battery. Let me know if you are interested.
3.
E-Mail problems again. So
please let me know
if you don't get the Bulletin by Friday evening, because I don't always get the E-Mails back as Delivery Failures. Also, don't forget that you can always check the website at
www.explore-uruguay.com (click on "Meet People" for info about the Uruguay Info Exchange) or go directly to
http://www.explore-uruguay.com/uruguay-info-exchange.htmlto see where we are meeting on the next Sunday, and to read the bulletin and lots of other stuff. It is now being set up so that recurring info doesn't have to be listed each week.
4. There are lots of
upcoming musical events, and some of us like to go together, so here is a bit more advance notice, so we are not trying to organize everything at the last minute, and can get the tickets a bit earlier:
April 26 (Friday) at the Auditorio Nacional del Sodre: A Concert featuring Stravinsky's Firebird and Dumbarton Oaks, the chamber concerto in E-Flat, at 20:30 (8:30 pm). Tickets $150 to $400 (pesos).
April 27 (Saturday) at the Solis: The live simultaneous broadcast of Julius Caesar (Händel) from the MET at 13:00 (1 pm). Tickets from $300 to $600 (pesos).
May 24 or 25, Friday or Saturday at the Auditoria Nacional del Sodre, a ballet gala at 20:00 (8 pm). Tickets $120 to $720 (pesos).
Let me know if any or all of these events are of interest to you, so we can get tickets together.
5. There are, of course,
other musical events, lots of them, in fact. So if you are interested in something not listed here and would like to go with others, if others are interested, let me know, and they will be publicized and organized. The events listed above are merely those for which some people have already indicated that they want to go.
6. The
Friday Group that meets at Costa Azul in Pocitos meets tomorrow, April 12th at 20:00 (8 pm).
Enough for today.
Cheers, Marita
